A former minister of state for information and communications, Dasuki Nakande, has restated the need for people to choose and vote competent and efficient representatives into office at all level of governance.
Nakande, who made this statement while presenting a paper entitled, “Using Public Office to Serve,” at a 2-day summit organised by Jos Renaissance Group, at Lamonde hotel, Jos, called on people to see the need to elect people with institutional, structural and administrative exposure into office.
He said; “People are elected or appointed into various positions without institutional, structural and administrative exposure. At times the relationships between the representatives and the people is affecting performances. People should shun malice and choose issues rather than personal reasons and focus for voting people into offices. I need at this point to emphasise that you do not necessarily have to be a public officer to serve your community.”
Nakande, said youths have greater roles to play in reshaping the society and Nigeria as a whole, admonishing them to shun the problems of drugs abuse, and other social vices.
