Former Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has debunked reports suggesting that he is planning to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the claims as false, unfounded and misleading.
Badaru, in a statement issued on Tuesday, by his media aide, Mati Ali, described the speculation as a product of political mischief. He urged party members and the general public to disregarded the false claims.
The former Jigawa State governor stressed that he remains a committed and loyal member of the APC, a party he noted he played a key role in establishing.
“I categorically state that the report is entirely false, unfounded, and a product of political mischief. My loyalty to the APC is absolute and unwavering. I have no intention whatsoever of leaving the party”, Badaru said.
The rumours had gained traction amid reports of internal disagreements within the APC in Jigawa State, particularly between Badaru and the incumbent governor, Umar Namadi. Some party sources had hinted at growing unease among certain blocs within the state chapter of the party, alleging marginalisation in party and government affairs.
However, Badaru moved swiftly to dismiss any suggestion that the reported tensions could lead to his exit from the ruling party. He urged APC members and supporters to remain focused on strengthening party unity and governance rather than being distracted by unverified reports.
According to him, such rumours were deliberately designed to sow discord and create unnecessary divisions within the party.
Badaru reaffirmed his continued commitment to the ideals and objectives of the APC, assuring supporters that he remains fully aligned with the party’s leadership and vision for Nigeria.
