Former Oyo State Governor, Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has been crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Governor Seyi Makinde presented the staff of office to the 81-year-old monarch at a colourful coronation ceremony held on Friday at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, the state capital.
Ladoja ascended the throne following the passing of his predecessor, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on July 7, 2025.
The event attracted dignitaries including President Bola Tinubu, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar, former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, among others.
Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa I, brings with him decades of political, business, and traditional experience.
His journey from political gladiator to monarch began with his election as Senator representing Ibadan Central in 1992.
In 2003, he became Governor of Oyo State but was controversially removed from office in 2005. He was later reinstated by the courts in 2006.
Beyond politics, Ladoja has maintained his position as a successful businessman and respected statesman.
He steadily rose through the Ibadan traditional chieftaincy hierarchy, from Mogaji to Otun Olubadan, before finally mounting the revered throne.
