Europa: 30 Man U Fans Fear Dead In Calabar

Though the Police have disputed the number, with a pledge to clarify Friday, about 30 fans of Manchester United are feared dead following an electrical accident that happened at a viewing center in a remote part of Calabar, capital city of Cross River State.

They were part of the fans watching the Europa league match played between Man U and and Anderlecht on Thursday evening.

Eyewitness account said that a cable in the viewing center located in the Iyang-Esu area of the ancient city suddenly cut and fell into the center and electrocuted many of the viewers. Many of the about 100 viewers died immediately while others who had were shocked by contact have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Cross River State Command, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the incident, stating that she would disclose the number of the dead, Friday.

The tension soaked match which went in extra time following a 2-2 draw aggregate was however won by Man U when teenager Marcus Rashford scored the decider in 108 minutes of the match, taking Man U into the semi-final stage of the competition.
