…Reps Ask Buhari to invoke Executive Order to meet Demands of Protesters

Speaker of the House of Representatives has pledged to sign the 2021 budget only if it includes adequate compensation for victims of police brutality and ensure other demands of the protesters are included as well as reasonable demands reached between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
Making the declaration on Tuesday during plenary of the Red House, he praised the youths for their organizational prowess and articulated views during the protest and appealed to then to heed voices of reason and allow dialogue to resolve issues raised during the 12 –day protest.
He said: “I will not sign the 2021 Budget if it does not include adequate compensation for victims of police brutality. I will not sign the budget if it does not meet the reasonable demands of ASUU to which the Federal Government has acceded.”
He appealed to the “young people who have led this protest we need to rebirth a new Nigeria… not to allow your right cause to be hijacked by those with base motives and bring our nation to its heels, “ after they have made their “voices heard from Nigeria to Washington and Calgari.”
The House later asked President Muhammadu Buhari to invoke Executive Order to meet the demands of the protesters.
In a related development, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Eyinanya Abaribe has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation and mention in his address policy and regulations dealing with the setting up of judicial panel to include the youths and punish the 27 indicted police officers by the Presidential Panel on SARS, which submitted its report yesterday.
