Former Anambra State governor and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has been taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.
The development was confirmed on Wednesday by Ngige’s former media aide, Fred Chukwulobe, who dismissed circulating rumours suggesting that the ex-minister had been kidnapped.
“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later,” Chukwulobe stated.
While the exact reasons for his arrest have not been disclosed, sources familiar with the matter say the Commission is investigating financial transactions linked to his tenure in public office.
Ngige recently attracted media attention when armed men attacked his convoy in Anambra State; he was not in the vehicle at the time, and no injuries were reported.
