Edo LG Poll: PDP Set for Rancour Free Primary, Says Chairman

 

 

 

 

 

With the release of the timetable by The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), for activities leading to the elections of Council Chairmen and Councillors on September 2nd, 2023, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has set in motion plans to ensure rancor free congresses and primaries.

Speaking on preparations for the poll Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi said that ‘In line with our determination to promote internal democracy in the party, we opened up the sales of expression of interests and nomination forms to all interested party members,”

He added ‘We also set up Screening and Appeal panels to vet the information and suitability of the aspirants inline with our party constitution and approved guidelines given by the State Executive Committee (SEC).”

He said the party was happy with the enthusiasm and overwhelming interest shown by members in its activities so far.

Electoral panels made up of reputable members of the party, he said, have been set up in each of the Senatorial Districts. This is also as LGA Electoral Panels have been set up for ease of implementation of the Congresses and Primaries.

“We are happy to note that the various bodies set up have successful completed their assignments and will soon be submitting their reports for implementation. Names of cleared aspirants who will participate in the congresses and primaries at the Wards and Local Governments levels will be published today Friday 19th May, 2023.

“While the Councilorship candidates and 3 Adhoc delegates are expected to be elected in the ward congresses slated for tomorrow Saturday 20th May, 2023, the Chairmanship candidates will emerge in the Local Government Primaries fixed for Wednesday 24th May, 2023. Please be informed that inline with the provisions of The Electoral Act 2022, only the elected 3 Adhoc delegates from the wards will participate in the Local Government primaries.

“The party has also in being proactive, setup post congresses and primaries reconciliation committees in the Senatorial Districts to quickly tackle any dispute that might arise. Due to the transparent processes put in place, we do not envisage much disputes after the exercises.

“On the part of the leadership of our great party in the state, I assure all our party members that we shall ensure free, fair and rancor free congresses and primaries as directed by our party leader, His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki. All our party members are encouraged to participate in the congresses of their various wards this weekend, he concluded.
