Barring any hitches in the collation of results of the Edo governorship election held yesterday, candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Monday Okpebholo will be declared governor- elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Returning Officer for the election, and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State Professor Farouk Kuta, who announced the adjournment of coallafter results in sixteen of the eighteen LGAs in Edo State were announced on Sunday afternoon, declared results that showed Okpebholo has taken the lead in ten of the 16 local government election results so far declared by the commission. The PDP had won in six local governments.
While the results of two local governments, Ikpoba-Okha and Oredo are being awaited, the APC candidate polled 244,549, to lead his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, who scored 195,954. To be declared winner, a candidate needs to win a majority of the votes cast and scored 25 per cent in 12 of the 18 LGAs in the state
