An online poll conducted by CHANNELS Television in partnership with Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room has given ‘victory’ to Governor Godwin Obaseki in the September 19, 2020 governorship election in the state.
According to the poll, Obaseki, who is candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ‘won’ the election by 57.73 per cent, while candidate of the rival All Progressives Congress, APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu ‘scored’ 40.07 per cent, a margin of 17 percent.
The organisers said they conducted the poll to prepare the grounds for the governorship debate to be hosted by them.
Members of the public were asked to vote for the governorship candidates of their choice from among the 14 listed, namely Godwin Obaseki, PDP; Osagie Ize-Iyamu, APC; Jones Osagiobare Young Peoples Party, YPP; Lucky Osagie Idehen, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA; Felix Obayangbon, Social Democratic Party, SDP; Akhigbe Ehiabhi of African Democratic Congress, ADC; Agol Tracy of New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP; Obafuso Paul of African Alliiance, Ibio Emmanuel of Allied Party; Accord Party, AP; Igbineweka Osamuede, of Allied Peoples Movement, APM; Amos Areloegbe of Labour Party, LP; Steve Ozono of National Rescue Movement, NRM; and Akhalamhe Ameioenoghena of Zenith Labour Party; ZLP.
Other candidates who got some mention in the poll though performed badly were Osagiobare of the Young Peoples Party, YPP, who came a distant third position with 0.36 per cent; Felix Obayangbon of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, who scored zero vote; Igbineweka Osamuede of APM who got 0.07 per cent; while Stevie Nash Ozono of NRM scored 0.11 per cent.
