The Department of State Services, SSS, has denied reports that Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu, was arrested by the agency on Monday.
Dr Peter Ofunanya, Public Relations Officer of the agency said in a statement on Monday that the DSS “did not arrest Ibrahim MAGU, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as has been reported by sections of the media. The Service, has since, today, 6th July, 2020, been inundated with enquiries over the alleged arrest.”
According to reports, Magu was picked up by the DSS in traffic while on his way to a meeting at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Magi faced allegations of corruption by the DSS in 2010, which made the eight National Assembly to stop his confirmation as Chairman of the anti-graft agency. He has since then been working in acting capacity.
