At least a dozen people are feared dead and several others were injured in a tanker explosion on Saturday morning, at Dikko Junction on the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway in the Gurara local government area of Niger State.
The explosion occurred at about 10 am as the crowd gathered to scoop fuel from the overturned tanker.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kumar Tsukwam, confirmed the incident but said the number of fatalities was yet to be ascertained.
Niger State governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, expressed worry over the recurring incident of tank explosions in the State.
