Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) across Nigeria metered 109,556 customers in December 2025, pushing the national electricity metering rate to 57.27 percent, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has reported.
The figures were contained in NERC’s Metering Factsheet for November and December 2025, released in Abuja on Tuesday. The December performance marks an increase from the 88,592 customers metered in November, indicating consistent progress in the ongoing metering drive.
According to the report, a total of 6,966,584 customers had been metered nationwide by the end of December, out of 12,163,412 active electricity consumers. Despite this improvement, over five million customers remain without meters, highlighting the continuing challenge for the power sector.
NERC identified Ikeja, Eko, and Abuja DisCos as the top-performing operators, maintaining the highest metering rates above 76 percent. The Commission praised these companies for their commitment to accurate billing and improved service delivery.
“The steady increase in metering demonstrates the commitment of DisCos and regulatory oversight to ensuring that electricity consumers are billed transparently and fairly”, the report noted.
Experts say enhanced metering is critical for revenue assurance, reduction of estimated billing complaints, and overall operational efficiency in the power sector.
The Commission urged all DisCos to intensify their metering deployment programmes to bridge the coverage gap and accelerate the move toward universal metering.
NERC reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring compliance with metering regulations and supporting initiatives that will ensure reliable and transparent electricity service across Nigeria.
