The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq has stated that the take-off of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities is a promise fulfilled.
Farouq, while thanking President Muhammadu Buhari for assenting to the Discrimination Against Persons with Disability (Prohibition) Act, 2019 last year which provides for the establishment of the Commission, noted that President Muhammadu Buhari has once again proved his commitment and desire to improve on the quality of life of vulnerable groups in Nigeria and ensure they enjoy their full rights and privileges as citizens of Nigeria. Farouq also congratulated the appointed executives and charged the chairman and members of Councils as well as the Executive Secretary to carry out their responsibilities with due diligence and to the best of their ability.
She further charged them to lay a solid foundation for the commission bearing in mind that the wellbeing of over 30 million persons living with disabilities in Nigeria largely depend on them, their actions and the way they discharge their duty
Meanwhile the presidential aide on disability also applauded Buhari for “promise kept on Disability Commission in Nigeria.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Disability Matters, Dr Samuel Ankeli, commended President Muhamadu Buhari, and called on persons with disabilities, their family members and friends to join hands with the pioneer management team of the commission to build a solid foundation that will benefit the generation of PWDs in Nigeria.
He also charged the newly constituted management team to be committed to the vision of the President in improving the life of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria.
