Crystal Palace defeated Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley Stadium to claim their first major trophy in club history.
The victory in the FA Cup final also guaranteed the South London club a place in next season’s UEFA Europa League competition. Eberechi Eze scored the decisive goal in the 16th minute against the run of play, capitalising on a swift counterattack orchestrated by Daniel Muñoz.
Dean Henderson proved instrumental in preserving Palace’s advantage, making a crucial penalty save from Omar Marmoush before half-time. The goalkeeper had earlier avoided dismissal following a VAR review when he handled outside his penalty area.
Henderson continued his exceptional performance throughout the match, denying multiple attempts from City’s attacking talents including Erling Haaland and Jérémy Doku.
The Citizens dominated possession and created numerous chances but found themselves frustrated by Palace’s determined defensive display.
The defending champions were unable to convert their territorial advantage into goals despite recording multiple shots in the second half. Debutant Claudio Echeverri tested Henderson late in the contest, but the Palace goalkeeper maintained his clean sheet.
Palace thought they had doubled their lead when Muñoz found the net near the hour mark, but the goal was disallowed after the ball struck Ismaïla Sarr, who was in an offside position during the build-up.
The Eagles ultimately held firm against mounting pressure from City, with defenders making critical interventions to protect their slender advantage until the final whistle confirmed their historic triumph.
The result is a significant disappointment for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who ended a challenging campaign without silverware.
For Crystal Palace, the victory marks their first FA Cup triumph and provides European football for the upcoming season, representing the greatest achievement in the club’s long history.
