Katsina State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has expressed deep concern over the report that a member who is also the General Manager of NTA Katsina Alh. Ayinde Suaga has tested positive for Corona Virus.
Expressing his sympathy on behalf of the state Council, Chairman NUJ, Katsina stat, Malam Tukur Dan-Ali, urged members in Katsina State to be cautious and continue to take all precautionary measures during coverage of events as journalists.
“This, of course indicates the fact that Journalists are exposed to danger in this hard period of the spread of Covid 19 pandemic every where in Nigeria, particularly in most affected states including Katsina.
“NUJ strongly believe that Alh. Ayinde Suaga contracted the corona virus as a result of his day to day service as Journalist and leader of NTA Katsina.
“We equally observed that there was no time in the recent history of Katsina State that the media houses in Katsina and their workers needed support from government and non- governmental organizations than now.
He tasked the Katsina state government and other stake holders to as a matter of urgency provide media organisations and practicing Journalists with Personal Protective Equipments (PPE,) and other needed support to enable them discharge their duty during this pandemic period.
While thanking the state government and its special task force on Covid 19 for working round the clock to control the spread of the pandemic, he expressed “confidence in the quick and happy recovery of Alh. Ayinde Suaga.”
