The people of Umudiawa in Umuahia East State Constitency have declared that the constituency seat in the Abia State House of Assembly would be vacant in 2019 and urged one of their own, Chidi Nwubani to vie for it.
This is even as various stakeholders from across the constituency have been endorsing the present occupier of the seat, Chukwudi Apugo for a return to it for the period for a second term
The people stated this when they paid Nwubani, a business man from the constituency, a courtesy visit at his home in Ndume in Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking through Ugochukwu Efem and Okezie Obasi representing Ndume and Amoforo, the autonomous communities that make up the people repectively, they said their position was not negotiable.
They explained that since the advent of the present democratic dispensation in the country in 1999, no indigine of either of the communities have ever been elected into the Assemly.
According to them, while Wards 1 and 2 of the constituency had occupied the seat for two and three terms each, neither Ndume nor Amoforo which are Wards 3 and 4 respectively had done so.
Responding to their call, Nwubani commended them for the visit and for finding him capable of serving them in that capacity, appealing to them to give him time to think over it.
“I am highly overwhelmed by the number of people that turned out for this visit. This is especially so because many of you abandoned your busy schedules to be honour the appointment,” he said.
Nwubani, who is the chief executive officer (CEO) of two multi-million Naira international companies, reassured them of his readiness to partner them to develop the constituency.
