A socialist and internationalist and trade union activist, Comrade Dimeji Macaulay has urged world leaders to work for an end to war in Gaza and sanction against Cuba and Venezuela.
Macaulay made this call during this year’s edition of Freedom Concert held in Abuja at the weekend.
The Freedom Concert is an annual social gathering for activists and the masses to come together to sing, dance and discuss local and international issues.
During this year’s event in Abuja at the Mr Macaulay who talked about the title of this year’s musical concert “for the forgotten people, for the suffering people around the world,” noted that suffering and hardship was not limited to Nigeria or Africa, but across the world.
In addition, he said, there is “presently an ongoing ethnic cleansing in Gaza, economic sanctions against Cuba, Venezuela and many other countries around the world for standing against United States of America bullying. While Cuba has been under sanction for over five decades, Venezuela has been under sanctions for over a decade. The world capitalist system is responsible for the suffering amidst abundance.”
“We all need to understand that as we speak the world has about 27 countries that are under colonisation. Among them is Puerto Rico which is under the United States of America, the Western Sahara that’s under Morocco and have its people living in refugee camps at Tindouf, Algeria for over five decades.The Canaries is under the Spanish government,Turks and Caicos are been held hostage by the United Kingdom just as Western Papua is under Colonialism by Indonesia.
Dimeji Macaulay ended his address with a call on comrades that “we need a world free from sanctions, neo -liberalism , oppression, corruption, wars and colonialism.”
