The Super Eagles CHAN team has been placed in Group D for the upcoming African Nations Championship in 2025.
The tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, is scheduled to commence in August.
This marks the return of Nigeria’s home-based team to the competition following a six-year absence.
The draw took place on Wednesday, determining the composition of Group D, which includes formidable opponents such as Senegal, Congo, and Sudan.
Nigeria’s performance in this group will be crucial for advancing to the later stages of the tournament.
The CHAN is exclusively for players plying their trade within their domestic leagues, providing an essential platform for local talents to shine on the continental stage.
Preparation for the tournament has already begun, with the Super Eagles B team assembling in camp.
The team’s focus will be on strategising and training to overcome the challenges posed by their group opponents.
The coaching staff, under the leadership of new coach Eric Chelle, aims to leverage the team’s recent form, which was highlighted by a 3-1 aggregate victory over Ghana in the qualifiers.
The CHAN 2025 tournament promises to be a competitive affair, with Group D presenting a diverse mix of footballing styles and strengths.
Senegal, the defending champions, will undoubtedly be a significant test for Nigeria, while Congo and Sudan bring their unique challenges and capabilities to the group.
The Confederation of African Football has confirmed that the infrastructure in the host countries is being prepared to meet the standards required for such a prestigious event.
Despite delays, CAF has reassured stakeholders that all necessary improvements will be completed in time for the tournament.
