The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has debunked claims that some LG Chairmanship aspirant have threatened to defect because they were not accommodated in the state congresses conducted in 16 out of 17 Local Governments in Plateau State, with the outcome in Kanke postponed because of crisis.
Chairman of the party, Hon Damishi Sango said that nothing was farther from the truth though he admitted that an aspirant has threatened to do so. Speaking during an interview with our correspondent at the Party Secretariat on Friday in Jos, he said
”You would recalled that the Kanke Local Government Chairmanship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Godwin Bedir says he will exit the party if it does not embrace internal democracy and resolve all internal wrangling”. He said the matter would be resolved amicably.
Our correspondent however gathered that Mr. Bedir expressed surprise that despite losing at the 2015 general elections due to imposition and immature conflict resolution, the party was still to learn its lessons.
He revealed that Thursday’s Chairmanship primaries fiasco in Kanke suggested that the party was still been ran by rival cliques which he observed does not favour progress.
He particularly faulted moves by certain individuals to impose candidates which led to the failure of the exercise.
The ex Plateau Youth Parliament President and LGC Media Aide called for the intervention of stakeholders at the higher level to prevent a few people stirring the party to its untimely death .
On the outcome of the congresses, Sango said ” We receive the outcome of congresses /primaries from various local government except one which is Kanke LGA. We have successful conducted congresses in16 Councils with no single petition”, he added.
We have some local governments polling units we need to conduct election, so by Monday we should be clear the list is not manufacture here. We have Councillorship ad-hoc committee which constitute electoral colleges to do the work with fairness” .
