The sporadic shootings at a military base in Ouagadougou, capital city of Burkina Faso in the early hours of Sunday morning continued into Monday with the reports that President Kabore has been detained.
In spite of the sporadic shootings overnight, there were indications that the coup attempt was foiled. But But there is a string possibility that the foiled coup might snowball otherwise into the eight successful coup since independence from France in 1958.
With ugly developments in Burkina Faso since the demise of President Blaise Compaore and the resurgence of President Thomas Sankara’s philosophies, predominantly by the youths, coupled with developments in neighbouring Mali, still basking in a coup trajectory, with ECOWAS sanctions hitting hard, the sporadic shootings Sunday through Monday morning are indicative of a likely uprising and the hallmarks of a likely coup de’tat

Defence Ministry had issued a press statement that ” relative calm has been restored and the President has been taken to a safe custody”, but details later revealed that ” all the 6 military camps are involved in the uprising….” all the those involved have been arrested and under investigation “, revealed Defence Ministry source.
The situation now in Burkina Faso is tense and precarious, with hallmarks of anger among the populace….
Burkina Faso, former Upper Volta, but renamed by late President Thomas Sankara, was plagued into turmoil since his death in 1987.
Since 2015, over 2,000 deaths have been recorded in ISL torrorist – related attacks, with millions displaced.
Surrounded by countries with successful coup leaders in all three countries of Mali, Niger and Guinea, it’s not surprising that Burkina Faso, has degenerated into a coup – trapped cubicle, with its people in the streets of Ouagadougou celebrating a mutiny, prevented by the authorities to develop into a successful coup.
If it becomes successful, this coups would be the ninth since Burkina Faso Independence from France
Since Burkina Faso gained independence from France on December 11, 1958, there had been 9 coups, 7 successful, while 2 had been unsuccessful.
In its first 27 years of independence, the country had five coups, the last coup killed President Thomas Sankara, who renamed the country from Upper Volta to its present name of, Burkin Faso, ” land of the righteous people”.
Four coups were staged after Sankara’s death, three under his long time friend, confidant and deputy, Blaise Compaore. More developments later
