
President Buhari has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria for making progress i the African Cup of Nations Egypt 2019 after a delightful win over the Cameroonian team.
“President Buhari recognises the hard work, team spirit and sportsmanship the boys have exhibited in the tournament, which are good signs for a team destined to succeed”, said Mr Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in a statement on Saturday.
He urged the team and its handlers to remain focused and determined through the remaining part of the tournament.
Super Eagles come from behind, after taking the lead through Odion Ighalo’s early openers, with Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions replying with two quick goals in the 41 and 44th minutes, until Alex Iwobi sealed victory with 67th min goal to make it 3-2. With that deserved win,Nigeria now advances to the quarter-finals of 2019 AFCON in Egypt..
Nigeria will now on Wednesday meet the winners of the fixture between hosts Egypt and South Africa, which will be played later on Saturday.
