The National Executive Council of Fugar Progressive Union, FPU, has set up the Fugar Historical Society with the main objective to preserve and propagate Avhianwu/Fugar history and culture. This is in order to, help the present and future generation of Fugarians understand their heritage better.
A statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Solomon Obomighie, said, “To achieve the objective, The Fugar Historical Society, shall undertake the following:
1. Conduct, encourage and support research, scholarly works, books, publication on Avhianwu/Fugar history and culture;
2. Organise conventions and lecture series on Avianwu/Fugar history and culture;
3. Plan and advice NEC on the establishment of the Fugar museum and cultural centre; and
4. Do such other things to advance the Avhianwu/Fugar history and culture.
According to the statement, the Fugar Historical Society, will in the interim operate as a Committee of FPU, with membership open to every interested Fugarian and may later evolve into an affiliate.
The Fugar Historical Society is to be managed by a Management Committee, led by Barrister James Kadiri Akhigbe as Chairman, while Mr. Lawal Eghiebade is Secretary and they are to co-opt other Management Team members, amongst interested members of the Society.
Fugar town, which has numerous attractive tourist sites, is the Local government headquarters of Etsako Central LGA of Edo State, South – South Nigeria.
