Bayelsa State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, has elected a new executive that will steer the affairs of the Association in the next three years.
Incumbent chairman Mr. Datonye Alambo of Radio Nigeria Creek FM 106.5 was returned unopposed, while Preye Yabrifa of Radio Bayelsa 97.1 replaced Niger Delta Television George Ameli as secretary.
Pereolotu Amgbare also retained his position as Vice Chairman and Patrick Ndubuisi of AIT/Raypower also returned as Assistant Secretary.
In the other position vied for Doris Eniekezimene was also returned as Treasurer while Hananeel Jackson of Radio Nigeria Creek FM emerged as financial secretary.
Addressing members of the State Chapter of SWAN, the National Vice- President, south-south, Mr Bonny Nyong advised members of the new executive to rebrand and carry every member along, forge a united front for the interest of the Association.
Mr. Nyong also called on the state government to support SWAN in the quest for members to be at par with their counterparts in other states.
In his remarks, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Daniel Igali represented by Permanent secretary Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Chief Patimidi Tukuru, advised SWAN members in the state to abide by the rules governing the association.
In an acceptance speech, Bayelsa SWAN Chairman, Mr. Datonye Alambo said the association would consolidate on the previous achievement recorded by the body.
Mr. Alambo while thanking SWAN members for their resourcefulness and doggedness in the last three years, pledged that welfare and capacity development for members in the state would be accorded priority.
The event was attended by the Bayelsa state NUJ Chairman Comrade Samuel Numonengi, Director New Media to Governor Douye Diri Mr. Kola Oredipe and Rivers State SWAN Chairman Jim Opiki.
