The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has cleared Dr. Peter Pereotubo Akpe as the state’s new Deputy Governor following the demise of Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
During a plenary session led by Speaker Abraham Ingobere, the House screened and confirmed the nomination, paving the way for Akpe’s inauguration by Governor Douye Diri tomorrow.
Prior to his nomination, Dr. Akpe served as the Chief of Staff at Government House in Yenagoa and is a former member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
He holds a PhD and is a seasoned administrator whose name had been a subject of frequent discussion in the search for a successor. His appointment is seen as a move that settles the intense speculation surrounding the vacancy.
A native of Ebedebiri in the Sagbama Local Government Area, Dr. Akpe hails from the same region as the late Senator Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away late last year.
