The Bauchi State Government has appointed 142 District Heads across the 20 emirates and chiefdoms in the state, as part of efforts to strengthen traditional governance and deepen grassroots administration.
The Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Abubakar Wabi, who disclosed this during a media briefing held at the Government House on Tuesday, said the appointments were carried out in accordance with the Bauchi State Chieftaincy (Appointment and Deposition) Law, 2025, which provides the legal framework for the restructuring, recognition and effective management of traditional institutions in the state.
According to him, the implementation of the law led to the creation of 20 Emirate Councils and Chiefdoms, making it necessary to appoint qualified District Heads, who will effectively manage local affairs and support governance at the community level.
He explained that the newly appointed District Heads are expected to enhance coordination between traditional rulers and government authorities, particularly in areas of peacebuilding, dispute resolution, security collaboration and community development.
“The appointments are aimed at strengthening governance at the grassroots and ensuring that traditional institutions play their constitutional roles in promoting peace, unity and development,” Wabi said.
The Commission Chairman commended Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, for providing strong leadership and support for reforms in the traditional institution, noting that the governor’s commitment was key to the successful implementation of the chieftaincy law.
He also appreciated the cooperation of other critical stakeholders, including traditional rulers and community leaders, whose support ensured a smooth and credible appointment process.
Wabi urged the newly appointed District Heads to uphold the principles of fairness, accountability and selfless service to their communities, assuring that the Bauchi State Government remains committed to strengthening traditional institutions as partners in governance and sustainable development.
