Comptroller of Customs, Mr Yusuf Bashir has said that but for bad access roads and poor electricity supply, the Tin Can Port, Apapa, Lagos, would be generating more than the N1 billion it currently makes for the government on a daily basis.
Mr Bashir who was guest speaker at the one-day seminar for SMEs organized by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI, yesterday, said the Nigeria Customs can generate more than that amount if the access roads leading to the port were motor able to make it easier for importers of goods to clear them and move to their warehouses within 48 hours.
He said, “ Everyday at Tin Can Port, we generate N1 billion as revenue for the government. We can do better if we have access roads leading to Tin Can because we can release cargo and it will take 48 hours to reach factory. If we have electricity, people will stop sleeping at the ports.”
