The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, on Tuesday warned that it may resume its strike, suspended on December 23, 2020 after nine months because the Federal Government has failed to honour its own part of the agreement reached with the union before it called-off the strike. It issued the warning on its official tweeter handle.
ASUU said the Federal Government must first honour its own part of the agreements entered into with the union for the lecturers to go back to classes. For instance the Earned Academic Allowance, EAA, was not paid by December 31, 2020 as agreed between the parties, neither were the university teachers paid their withheld and December salaries.
“Government should honour the agreements because it will be a big surprise to Nigerians that ASUU is back on strike again if government fails to honour our demands the strike will continue!!” a tweet stated on the Union’s Twitter handle .
The Ministries of Education and that of Labour and Productivity are yet to respond to the development.
