England’s dream of appearing in the first men’s final in the World Cup since 1966 suffered a massive blow in the hands of defending Champions Argentina at the Atlanta Stadium in the USA on Wednesday night.
A 55th min goal by Anthony Gordon had kept the hope of the Three Lions alive until the decisive moments of the thrilling semi- final encounter when Lautaro Martinez struck a Lionel Messi assist from outside the 18 yard box to level for Argentina in the 85th min.
With that crucial opening, Argentina kept up the pressure. It paid off as substitute Enzo Fernandez headed home another Messi assist in the 90±2 mins.
Argentina will face Spain in Sunday’s final, while England will face France for the third -place match on Saturday.
