The outcome of the 19 APC governor’s meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday during which the president ruled out consensus candidacy for the presidency of the party’s candidate in the 2023 election has raised tension ahead of today’s Wednesday crucial NEC meeting in Abuja.
PMB insisted on primary election, saying there’s nothing like consensus candidate in Presidential primary election. He urged aspirants to test their popularity on field.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) had fixed April 20, to meet to consider the party’s timetable and schedule of activities for its primaries ahead of the 2023 general election.
Mr Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the party announced this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
He said the meeting scheduled to hold at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, would also consider the nomination of candidates for the 2023 general elections and other relevant business of the party.
“In pursuant to Article 25.2.ii of the Constitution of the APC, the National Working Committee (NWC) has called the maiden post-National Convention meeting of the NEC to be held on Wednesday, April 20th, 2022.
“All members of NEC are by this invitation to take notice of the meeting in accordance with Article 12.3 of the APC Constitution,” Morka said.
Also on the table for discussion are two other vital issues dealing with the cost of expression of interest and nomination forms for elective offices at the coming general election and the consideration of the report of the former Jigawa State Governor Ali Saad Birnin Kudu Committee set up by NWC to study the handing over a note of the defunct Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) and other sundry matters affecting the national secretariat of the party.
