Less than a week after Pa James Oghoroko, the President-General of Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, died in military detention on Thursday, another leader, the community’s treasurer, Pa. Dennis Okugbaye, has been confirmed dead.
Earlier reports carried the death of Oghoroko, one of the Okuama leaders arrested by the Nigerian military in August alongside other residents.
Pa Okugbaye is one of the leaders arrested by the Nigerian military since August 2024, following the gruesome murder of 17 personnel including four officers, and 13 soldiers, earlier in March. The military personnel were allegedly ambushed in Okuama Community.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) had on March 28, declared eight persons wanted over their roles in the killing of military personnel.
Pa Okugbaye was arrested alongside Oghoroko (who died earlier), Prof Arthur Ekpekpo, Chief Belvis Adogbo, Pa Anthony Ahwemuria and Mrs Rita Akata between August 18 and 20.
An earlier report indicated Pa Okugbaye was battling for his life in an undisclosed military facility.
His son, Pastor Akpos Okugbaye, announced the news of the death of the 81-year-old.
