The Anambra State government has sealed a shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, in Ihiala Local Government Area, allegedly used by Ekene Igboegbueze, a self-proclaimed native doctor to make people rich through supernatural means.
Prince Ken Emeakai, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, disclosed this to newsmen when he led men of Operation Udo Ga-Achi to the shrine.
He explained that the government’s action was prompted by multiple complaints from residents of Okija, as well as a viral online video in which Igboegbueze openly admitted to engaging in Oke Ite, Yahoo Plus, and Awele—practices that contravene Anambra State’s Homeland Security Laws.
“Igboegbueze’s business is illegal under Anambra State Homeland Security Laws,” he said.
He added that properties acquired through the illicit trade have also been sealed.
“All items found in the shrine will undergo forensic examination, and the results will determine further government action,” he added.
On his part, the Director of Operations for Agunechemba Security Outfit, Chinenye Ihenko, cautioned youths against patronizing fake native doctors and pastors.
“The activities of fake spiritual leaders are fueling a get-rich-quick mentality in the state. Our mandate is to sanitize Anambra, and we are committed to that. Anything contributing to the desecration of the state or aiding criminal activities will be eradicated. That, we can assure the people,” stated.
