Alleged Cybercrime: Court Grants Sowore N10m Bail

The Federal High Court, Abuja, has granted a N10 million bail to Omoyele Sowore, Convener of #RevolutionNow Movement and publisher of SaharaReporters.

 Sowore was arraigned on Wednesday, by the Inspector-General of Police on a 16-count charge bordering on cybercrime

Marked FHC/ABJ/CR/23/2025, Sowore was accused of intentionally and knowingly sending messages through his verified Twitter account, where he referred to the IG as “illegal IGP Kayode Egbetokun.”

“That you OMOYELE SOWORE on the 13th day of December, 2024 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, did intentionally and knowingly send messages through your verified X handle account “Omoyele Sowore” and caused a publication against the Inspector General of Police wherein you addressed him as the “…illegal IGP Kayode Egbetokun which you knew to be false, for the purpose of causing breakdown of law and order and you caused the message to be sent and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrime(Prohibition, Prevention. ETC) Act, 2015 as Amended (2024) and punishable under section 24(2)(c) (ii) of the same Act”, the charge alleged in count one.

Justice Musa Suleiman Liman on Wednesday, reserved judgement on Sowore’s bail application after he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Ruling Thursday on the application, Justice Liman admitted Sowore  to a N10 million bail with one surety who had to be a law-abiding citizen and possess property in the Federal Capital Territory.

Sowore was also ordered by the court to deposit his international passport with the court registrar.
