Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, on Monday announced the immediate removal of two aides in a sudden shake-up described by officials as part of a broader restructuring of the state’s governance machinery.
The affected aides are Joseph Jacob Ikpak, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Support Services, and Felix Ekuri, Special Assistant on Neighbourhood Watch.
The disengagement was communicated in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah, who said the action aligns with Governor Eno’s efforts to “realign the machinery of government” in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope and ARISE Agenda.
While the official statement did not provide reasons for the dismissals, multiple political sources say that the move may be linked to the aides’ alleged ties to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The claim, however, remains unverified, and the government has not commented on the speculation.
The development comes amid reports that the administration is tightening internal controls to ensure loyalty and reinforce its policy direction.
The affected aides have been directed to vacate their offices immediately.
