Nigeria’s national power grid, on Tuesday, suffered another system disturbance, triggering a nationwide blackout and marking the second grid collapse recorded in 2026.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced the development via the Nigeria National Grid platform on X, which simply posted, “GRID COLLAPSE”.
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed that load allocation to all 11 electricity distribution companies (DisCos) dropped to zero megawatts as of 10:54am, indicating a total loss of electricity supply across the country.
Data released by the national grid showed that the affected DisCos included Abuja, Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ibadan, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt and Yola, leaving millions of customers without power at the time of the incident.
However, authorities said restoration efforts were ongoing, assuring Nigerians that engineers were working to stabilise the system and restore electricity supply as soon as possible.
