AfCON: Super Eagles Sail into Round of 16 As Equatorial Guinea Knock Out Host CIV

With a saving own goal by Guinea Bisau central defender Opa Sagante in the 36th minutes of the match,  the Super Eagles of Nigeria have qualified from the group stage of the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire for the Round of 16.

The 1-0 win in the last match of their Group A pairing on Monday gave the second spot to Nigeria in group A, now led by Equatorial Guinea at the top following their humiliating defeat of the host, Cote d’Ivoire, in the other Group A match, 4-1 earlier on Monday.

 With the last matches played, Equatorial Guinea are at the top of Group A with seven points, with a +6 goal difference.
Nigeria, with the same number of points, are second, while Cote d’Ivoire are third with three points.
Guinea Bissau came out of the group with no points.
