The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has elected Adebayo Adedamola, popularly known as Fryo, as its governorship candidate following a smooth and decisive primary held on Tuesday at Adolak Hall, Osogbo.
Adedamola emerged unopposed less than 24 hours after incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke resigned from the PDP, leaving him as the sole aspirant.
According to the Chairman of the PDP Electoral Committee, Humphrey Abba, 957 of the 990 accredited delegates participated in the exercise.
At the end of voting, Adedamola polled 919 votes, while 20 votes were declared void.
Announcing the results, Abba praised the delegates for their orderly conduct. “Following the successful voting, 20 void votes were recorded. One of the aspirants earlier withdrew.
The remaining valid votes—919—went to Adebayo Adedamola, who is hereby elected and returned,” he said.
A brief disruption occurred after the committee departed the venue when the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, arrived with several lawmakers in an alleged attempt to stop the exercise, despite its conclusion.
Egbedun reportedly engaged in a heated exchange with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who were present to observe the primary. The incident did not affect the outcome of the poll.
