The Supreme Court on Tuesday drew the curtain on the July 16, 2022 governorship election in Osun State by affirming  Ademola Adeleke as the validly elected governor.

The five-member panel of the apex court held that the Court of Appeal correctly reinstated Adeleke as Governor of Osun State after the Osun State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal invalidated his declaration as winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Ex- governor of Osun State and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Gboyega Oyetola, had rejected INEC declaration of Adeleke as winner on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, and headed to the Tribunal, where he was declared winner.

Oyetola who lost his re-election bid by a 3.5% margin to former Senator Ademola Adelek and his running mate, Kola Adewusi, lost at the Appeal Court which upturned the Election Petition Tribunal of 27 January 2023.
