The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of Assistant Inspector General of Police Funsho Adegboye to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police.
The Commission also announced the elevation of Commissioners of Police Danjuma Aboki and Dansabo Idi to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.
In a significant move to enhance career progression within the Nigeria Police Force, the Commission further approved the promotion of 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II.
These promotions followed the successful performance of the officers in the recently concluded Departmental Selection Board Examination.
The decisions were ratified during the third plenary meeting of the Commission held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, under the chairmanship of retired DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu.
Prior to his new rank, DIG Adegboye was the officer in charge of the Police Mobile Force at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
His career includes extensive service in operations, training, and administration, as well as participation in United Nations missions in Kosovo, Liberia, Timor, and Somalia.
AIG Danjuma Aboki previously served as the Commissioner of Police for the Imo State Command, while AIG Dansabo Idi was the Acting AIG for Research and Planning at the Force Headquarters.
The Commission noted that the promotions were the result of a rigorous merit based process that included both written examinations and oral interviews.
The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Argungu, congratulated the promoted officers and emphasized that these elevations reflect a commitment to transparency and professionalism.
He stated that the new ranks come with higher responsibilities and urged the officers to rededicate themselves to the safety and security of the nation. He also commended the standing committee led by retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu for their diligence during the promotion exercise
