Governor Ikpeazu
Campaign against renomination of Abia State Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu for the 2019 general election may have been launched by the people of Ohafia, one of the clans in his Ohafia Local Government Area.
At a grand civic reception organized by “Nde” Ohafia Umemeze for Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at Ohafia Central School Field, Elu Ohafia, in the area, his picture was omitted in the programme for the occasion though he was present.
The matter generated a lot of heat after security agencies and protocol officers attached to his office noticed the omission and confiscated copies of the programme from the organising committee of the occasion .
Apology for the omission and plea by the Chairman of the committee, and the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Umeh Kalu (SAN) for the release of the programme proved abortive.
However, as if to lay credence to the assertion, Kalu in his address of welcome on the occasion said the clan which he maintained is the majority in the area had been short changed in elective positions by the present administration.
The Senior Advocate of Nigeria noted that when the political equation that led to the emergence of Ikpeazu who is from Abia South Zone in the office was configured, the clan had been tipped for office of deputy governor.
He argued that since 1993 every elective political office zoned to the area had been given to Nkporo, Chukwu’s clan, saying it has produced two speakers of the state House of Assembly, a member of the House of Representative, and a deputy governor.
