Emenike
The All Progressive Congress (APC), Abia North zone has given a leader of the party in the state, Chief Ikechi Emenike two weeks ultimatum to declare for the 2019 governorship election in the state.
Emenike, an economist and renown journalist is the chairman/chief executive officer (CEO) of Development Economic Resources (DER) Limited, a Lagos-based indigenous publishing firm.
They threatened to mobilise members of the party from across the state to picket his Umukabia country home in Umuahia should he turn down their demand until he accepts to contest the election.
These were contained in an 11-point communiqué they issued and signed at the end of their one-day retreat at Oguduasaa in Isuikwuato Area Council, which was made available to our correspondent.
The communique signed by Chiefs Ejiofor Okeudo, Chukwuma Ugah, and Dr Agbaeze Ogbu Ujah, the chairman, area leader, and state ex-officio member respectfully decried the state of the state.
“We have noticed that since 1999, the state has been in the hands of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) without any meaningful development as it has been in backward movement,” they said.
They claimed that all facets of economic activities in the state were as good as dead just as contractors handling government projects have abandoned their sites due to nonpayment.
Meanwhile the state Publicity Secretary of the party, Engr Mike Ozemena has issued a statement, saying the recent defection of some members of the party would not affect its fortunes in 2019.
