Aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kanam Local Government who felt cheated in the recently concluded party primaries for the LG polls in Plateau State have voted with their feet and defected to the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
Abubakar Musa, a Chairmanship aspirant of the ruling APC, who said he was schemed out of the contest for preferred aspirants in spite of his readiness to abide by the party rules, said he had to lead his supporters to another party since no attempt was made to redress the protests by members “over imposition and selection of preferred aspirants by the leaders’’
Speaking shortly after the party officials affirmed consensus candidates across the 17 Local Government Councils, Hon Musa told journalists that the basic principle that led him to join APC in the first place was to ensure his people benefitted from the dividends of democracy, which the anointing of preferred aspirants has eroded, leaving him with no option than to move to the ADC.
Musa said: “Considering the recent performance of APC, I personally know that some people will say if the party perform credibly well why abandoning the party to ADC. We are founders of APC in Kanam LGA but unfortunately the crisis rocking the party here is because many of our politicians are myopic in their thinking by foisting their personal ideas on the party which is against the prosperity of the community”.
He maintained that what the people of Plateau needed more than anything in the present moment is peace as well as transparent leadership which focuses more on people oriented programs, especially for the youths.
Musa promised to use the office to provide health care delivery, standard education to the people of Kanam LGA if elected.
