The Borno Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with breaking down of shops and stealing money and items in Gwange Ward area of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Keneth Daso on Tuesday, said, on 23 August 2026, at about 1400hrs, one Mohammed Bello Umar reported to the Command that his shop located at Gwange Zuwa Dawuri Area Maiduguri, was burgled in the early hours of 20th August 2026.
According to the complainant, an unspecified amount of cash reported to be about N2,000,000, alongside provisions and other items kept in the shop, were taken away by the perpetrators.
He said operatives of the Command State Intelligence Department (SID) commenced investigation and acted on credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of two suspects, (1) Hussain Mohammed, 17yrs, (3) Rabiu Yusuf, 17yrs, both of Gwange Zuwadawuri area, Maiduguri.
The statement reads: “The Borno State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating crime and protecting lives and property, recording a recent breakthrough with the arrest of two suspects in connection with the burglary of a provision shop in Maiduguri, during which cash and other items were reportedly stolen.
“On 23 August 2026, at about 1400hrs, one Mohammed Bello Umar reported to the Command that his shop located at Gwange Zuwa Dawuri Area Maiduguri, was burgled in the early hours of 20th August 2026.
“According to the complainant, an unspecified amount of cash reported to be about N2,000,000, alongside provisions and other items kept in the shop, were taken away by the perpetrators.
“Following the report, operatives of the Command State Intelligence Department (SID) commenced investigation and acted on credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of two suspects, (1) Hussain Mohammed, 17yrs, (3) Rabiu Yusuf, 17yrs, both of Gwange Zuwadawuri area, Maiduguri.
“During investigation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and further mentioned two accompanists (1) Kalifa (2) Pato, whom they alleged to have been involved in the offense. The Command has recovered the sum of N430,000 while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the two suspects currently at large.
“The Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, psc, has directed that the investigation be conducted thoroughly and professionally, with a view to establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring that all persons found culpable are brought to justice.
“The Command reiterates its commitment to protecting lives and property and urges members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities and provide credible information that can assist police investigation. 0806 807 5581, 0802 347 3293”. Daso explained.
