Abia Assembly Commences Screening of Commissioner-Nominees

The Abia State House of Assembly has commenced screening of 23 commissioner-nominees submitted by the Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu about three weeks ago.

Eight nominees which include two former members of the House of Representatives, one, and two former deputy speaker and speakers of the House respectively were asked to take bows.

The nominees were Eziuche Ubani, Uzor Azubuike, Chinedum Kelechi, Christopher Enweremadu, Asiforo Okere, Chidiebere Nwoko, Young Onyike, and Obinna Ekekwe.

Ubani and Azubuike, the former Federal lawmakers served in the immediate past executive council as commissioners for Works, and Agriculture respectively.

Former Commissioners for Education, Industries, Science and Technology, and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ikechi Mgboji, Henry Ikoh, and Charles Ogbonnaya respectively, who made the list were screened.

Speaking separately, after their turns, the nominees indicated their interests to work with the present administration in the state to deliver on its campaign promises.

They also expressed their desire to ensure the return of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration in the 2019 general election to “continue with its developmental strides.”

The Speaker of the 24-member PDP-contolled house with seven All Progrssives Grand Alliance (APGA) opposition, Chikwendu Kalu is expected to make remarks at the end of the execise.

It would be recalled that Ikpeazu, had, while submitting the list, appealed to the members to expedite action on the exercise to enable the administration maintain its tempo of activities.
