The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 13 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and elevated 80 other senior police officers to higher ranks as part of efforts to strengthen leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.
The PSC’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Mr Torty Kalu, said the affected officers earned their elevations after successfully passing the commission’s recently concluded written examinations and oral interviews.
According to Kalu, the promotions formed one of the major resolutions reached during the commission’s plenary meeting.
The newly promoted AIGs are Itam Obono, Bassey Ewah, Osagie Agans-Irabor, Monday Agbonika, Iyamah Adebor, Isa Nda, Akaninyene Ezima, Livingstein Orutugu, Afegbua Rashid, Edozie Azuka, Haruna Yahaya, Emenari Innocent and Betty Otimenyin.
The commission also approved the promotion of 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to the substantive rank of Commissioners of Police (CPs). They include Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle Murtala, Danbaba Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Oyintare, Ibrahim Zungura, Iya Mohammed, Darma Na’aliyu, Nuruddeen Sabo, Tijjani Murtala, Yakubu Mohammed, Ibrahim Usman, Akingbade Adeyinka, Mohammed Ahmed, Samuel Ahmed, Adedeji Taiwo and Zainab Pembi.
In addition, 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), while 33 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs).
Beyond the promotions, the commission approved the confirmation of the appointments of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II (ASP II) to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I (ASP I).
Speaking on the promotions, PSC Chairman, Hashimu Argungu, congratulated the officers and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary conduct and dedication to duty.
He charged the newly promoted officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, transparency and accountability while discharging their responsibilities.
Argungu also cautioned them against becoming entangled in civil disputes, particularly land-related matters, stressing that such issues often undermine the credibility of police officers.
He further reminded them that their careers would eventually come to an end and advised them to protect their integrity throughout their years of service.
“Be mindful of the fact that there is life after retirement. Guide your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you”, the PSC chairman said.
