The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has charged senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to adopt proactive, intelligence-driven and adaptive policing measures in addressing the nation’s evolving security challenges.
The charge was delivered during the monthly conference with strategic senior officers of the Force, held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday.
Addressing the officers, the IGP highlighted the various security threats confronting the country, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, terrorism, banditry, farmer-herder conflicts and cyber-enabled crimes.
He stressed that the dynamic nature of security threats requires stronger leadership, improved inter-agency coordination and more effective operational responses to ensure that law enforcement agencies remain ahead of criminal elements.
Disu stated that the Nigeria Police Force must continue to embrace intelligence-led policing and proactive strategies capable of responding to emerging security concerns across different parts of the country.
According to him, maintaining public confidence and ensuring national security depend largely on the Force’s ability to anticipate threats and respond effectively to criminal activities.
The IGP also disclosed that the Force has recorded major operational successes since its last strategic conference in May 2026.
Providing a breakdown of recent achievements, he said police operatives arrested eight suspected terrorists, fifty-five suspected kidnappers, sixty-five armed robbery suspects, twenty-nine murder suspects and forty-two suspected cultists through coordinated operations conducted nationwide. He further revealed that eighty-eight kidnapped victims were successfully rescued during various operations.
In addition, security personnel recovered one hundred and fourteen firearms, eight hundred and forty-three rounds of ammunition and twenty-eight stolen vehicles linked to criminal activities across the country.
Disu described the achievements as a reflection of the dedication and commitment of police personnel in combating criminality and enhancing public safety nationwide. He urged senior officers to sustain the momentum by strengthening operational effectiveness, improving intelligence gathering and ensuring that policing strategies remain proactive and responsive to emerging threats.
The monthly strategic conference forms part of the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to evaluate security developments, improve coordination among commands and enhance operational outcomes in addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges.
The conference brought together Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs), Commissioners of Police (CPs), and other senior officers to review the security situation across the country and assess ongoing operational strategies
