The Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has intensified security surveillance across the state with a directive for round-the-clock patrols of schools, hospitals and other strategic locations, following rumours alleging the presence of bandits in parts of the state.
The security outfit, however, dismissed reports suggesting that bandits had infiltrated or occupied any part of Ondo State, describing such claims as false and unverified.
In a statement issued on the development, the corps clarified that there was no confirmed incident of bandit invasion in the state and urged residents not to panic over reports currently circulating in some communities, particularly within Akure metropolis.
According to the agency, the rumours have the potential to create unnecessary fear and tension among residents if left unchecked.
The Commander of Ondo Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, directed all area commanders, coordinators and heads of tactical units to sustain special 24-hour surveillance and patrol operations across the 18 local government areas of the state.
The directive, according to the corps, covers schools, hospitals, churches, public facilities, critical national assets and other strategic locations considered vulnerable or essential to public safety.
The move is to strengthen preventive security measures and ensure that criminal elements do not exploit misinformation or public anxiety to perpetrate unlawful activities.
“The information being circulated regarding the presence of bandits in the Akure metropolis is false. We advise members of the public to disregard such reports and refrain from spreading unverified information”, the statement read.
The security agency further reassured residents that adequate measures remain in place to maintain law and order across the state.
Residents were encouraged to continue their lawful daily activities and business engagements without fear while maintaining a high level of vigilance.
The corps also called on members of the public to support ongoing security efforts by promptly reporting suspicious movements, activities or individuals to relevant security agencies.
