Yusuf Buhari, son of Nigeria’s late former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has secured a resounding victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency seat in Katsina State, reinforcing the enduring political influence of the Buhari family in the state.
Results announced on Saturday showed Yusuf Buhari polling a dominant 5,849 votes to defeat Hon. Auwal Daura, who secured just 21 votes in the primary contest.
The overwhelming margin of victory has generated widespread reactions across Katsina political circles, with many observers describing the outcome as a clear demonstration of the continued strength of the Buhari political structure, particularly within the Daura axis regarded as the family’s traditional stronghold.
Party officials said the primary election was conducted peacefully, with delegates from across the constituency participating in the process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Supporters of Yusuf Buhari celebrated the outcome shortly after the declaration of results, insisting that the massive support reflected the enduring goodwill associated with the Buhari name and the confidence of party delegates in his candidacy.
Although Yusuf Buhari has largely maintained a low public political profile over the years, his emergence as the APC candidate is widely seen as his formal entry into active partisan politics.
As of the time of filing this report, Hon. Auwal Daura had yet to publicly react to the outcome of the primary election.
