Senator representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume, has taken decisive steps to include both Damboa and Hawul Local Government Areas in his formal proposal for the delineation and activation of additional State constituencies in Borno South, following compelling historical evidence presented by community stakeholders.
The development follows earlier correspondence addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission concerning the need for additional State constituencies in parts of Borno South.
While the initial communication referenced Gwoza, Askira-Uba, and Biu, fresh archival facts and legislative records brought forward by patriotic citizens, have established that both Damboa and Hawul historically qualified for multiple State constituencies dating back to 1979.
According to documents now in circulation, Damboa previously had three State constituencies—Damboa North/East, Damboa North/West, and Damboa South—before subsequent administrative adjustments.
Similarly, Hawul, which was carved out of Biu, also maintained two constituencies before being reduced to one, despite significant population growth over the years.
Reacting to the concerns raised, Senator Ndume on Wednesday acknowledged the legitimacy of the claims and has acted to ensure that Damboa and Hawul are duly captured in the ongoing proposal for additional representation.
“This is democracy at work. When the people present facts, history, and evidence, leadership must listen and act. Damboa and Hawul deserve fair representation based on historical and constitutional realities,” the Senator noted.
The Senator’s swift response has been widely described as a demonstration of responsive representation, showing readiness to review and strengthen legislative actions in line with verifiable records and the aspirations of constituents.
With this development, the revised submission is expected to comprehensively reflect Gwoza, Askira-Uba, Biu, Damboa, and Hawul as qualified areas for additional State constituencies in Borno South.
Senator Ndume reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing policies and legislative initiatives that promote balanced development, fair representation, and democratic inclusion across the entire senatorial district.
