Goals from Fermin Lopez and substitute Marcus Rashford gave Barcelona a 2-0 win at Getafe on Saturday, extending their lead at the summit of LaLiga to 11 points.
Lopez broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time, latching onto a precise forward pass from Pedri and rolling the ball low past David Soria into the bottom corner. It was a composed finish that gave the hosts no chance.
Getafe’s disciplined defensive shape restricted Barcelona’s threat considerably after the interval. Dani Olmo came closest to doubling the lead, only for Soria to turn away his effort following a sharp lay-off from Jules Kounde.
The result was put beyond doubt in the 74th minute. Barcelona moved rapidly from their own half after Getafe won a corner, with Robert Lewandowski finding the onrushing Rashford in space to finish past Soria from the edge of the penalty area.
Marc Casado struck over from close range in stoppage time, though the miss carried no consequence. Real Madrid had dropped points with a 1-1 draw against Real Betis the previous evening, making Barcelona’s victory all the more commanding in the title race.
