The United Kingdom has announced a major digital shift in its visa system, confirming that from February 25, 2026, all visitors who require a visa will receive only an electronic visa (eVisa).
The update was disclosed by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) via a post on X, formerly Twitter, which provided guidance for travelers.
“From 25 February 2026 visitors to the UK, who need a visa, will get an eVisa only. Create your UKVI account and view your eVisa, before you travel to the UK,” the agency stated.
The eVisa will serve as digital proof of immigration status and will be linked electronically to a traveler’s passport, replacing traditional visa stickers and paper documents.
The UK government said the move is part of a broader digital transformation of its immigration system, aimed at improving security, reducing fraud, and simplifying border processes.
UK authorities have been gradually introducing eVisas across various visa categories, but this extension to all visa-required visitors represents a major expansion of the digital system.
Travelers are advised to create a UKVI account in advance and verify their eVisa details to ensure smooth entry into the United Kingdom.
